Who is JSWISS?

When JSWISS is on the mic you can count on three things: inspiring messages, sharp wordplay, and an energy that moves the crowd. To his many acquired fans, he also brings a fresh and much needed, variant perspective to the current hip hop landscape.  His brand of hip-hop, reflective of his vast musical influences and life experiences is infused with a heavy dose of what he calls “awthenticity.” As SWISS, who grew up in the quaint New York suburb of Dobbs Ferry, explains it, “How I live my life and in my music, I strive to be the greatest me, I can be. Not anyone else. So I seek to encourage others through my music to be ‘authentic’ and leave people in ‘awe’ of how true to yourself you are. That’s being AWTHENTIC.”

JSWISS has proven appeal to hip-hop purists and new hip-hop audiences alike, marrying infectious music with a lyrical prowess and adept flow.  Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival producer Brooklyn Bodega calls JSWISS, “a great representative of the future of the culture,” while emcee/producer Erick Sermon of the legendary duo EPMD said he’s “what hip hop needs” immediately after catching him perform for the first time. Hip Hop specialists, 2Dope Boyz also proclaimed “JSWISS has incessantly proven time and time again that he has both the skill and diligence to carry the torch of his esteemed idols.”

JSWISS, a seasoned performer with hundreds of shows under his belt, is capturing a burgeoning audience worldwide. His must-see, live shows where he’s routinely backed up by a live band of top-notch instrumentalists, have graced the notable and legendary stages of the Apollo Theater, Blue Note Jazz Club, Preservation Hall, The Bitter End, SOBs, Rockwood Music Hall and more. Even the landmark and world renowned New York Botanical Gardens welcomed JSWISS as the first ever hip-hop artist to perform there in its storied history.  He’s also shared the stage and opened for many popular artists including, the “GOD” MC Rakim, 2Chains and Big K.R.I.T. to name a few.

Since releasing his first mixtape in 2009, while a student at UNC-Chapel Hill studying broadcast journalism, JSWISS, has received acclaim from an array of music authorities such as The Source, Complex Magazine, Hip Hop DX, Ambrosia For Heads, SoultracksWeekly Rap Gods, and RESPECT Magazine. His journalism background and past experience as an award- winning scribe, has been an asset toward crafting his keen approach, and thought-provoking content. A dope delivery, added to the aforementioned, vaunted staples of his style not only take center- stage on his own projects, but make the talented MC a favorite collaborator of standout bands and musicians at the intersection of hip-hop, soul and jazz. Accomplished talents like Maurice “Mobetta” Brown, Ben Williams, Jared Evan, Marcus Machado, Daru Jones, Daniel Crawford, Chris Dave, Amina Figarova, Tomás Doncker, Camille Gainer Jones, and more, have tapped JSWISS when they a seek a lyricist who can effortlessly fall in where most MCs can’t. Besides performances, projects and numerous features, his music can also be found prominently placed in the Red Bull TV-backed documentary "Raise Up: The World Is Our Gym”, the NBA TV-premiered "Hoops Africa”  and popular Youtube series, Make Up and Break Up to name a few.

Following up impressive, radar-sounding projects, including the Soulspazm released, ALLCAPSNOSPACES, in June 2016, JSWISS released the soulful and funk infused EP No Music featuring Grammy certificate-winning singer, Maya Azucena, keyboardist Nick Rolfe (Aretha Franklin, Sting) and production from bassist/producer Brady Watt (Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monche, Joey Bada$$).  The acclaimed project boasted the popular, feel-good first single “Sunshine To Rain”, as well as the anthemic “Dedicate.LoveSomethin.“ The stirring video for the latter, inspirational track, which featured appearances by top-ranked, Team USA fencers and siblings, Kamali and Khalil Thompson as well as Eduard Checo, calisthenics athlete and founder of the world-renowned calisthenics movement ‘Barstarzz’, was selected for screening at the 2018 Hip Hop Film Festival. 

On his latest, JSWISS  stretches beyond the old adage of “A penny for your thoughts”  to suggest, Every Word Is A Dollar, the title of his new full-length project and strongest to date.  The stunning project, shows SWISS at the peak of his game - an astute storyteller and an accomplished performer spewing messages of inspiration and hope while at the same time shining light on injustice and more.
